– Teddy Nakyanzi – Trust High School teacher

‘Every person needs to explore their profession; a teacher yearns to be an examiner. I was excited to be nominated as one in 2017. It is a wonderful position to hold. The paper I was nominated to examine meant spending Christmas away from my family while doing the marking, which wasn’t the case with all other subjects. Because of this, most teachers avoided it and went in for other subjects. However, I accepted the challenge of marking papers and away from my family. I never had a Christmas meal or any other feast. I was two months pregnant with my first baby. My whole family was excited about a new baby. On Christmas day, away from my family, at lunch time, something happened. I started to haemorrhage. A few hours later in hospital, sadly, I had a miscarriage.

But I am blessed as I now have a little girl, Angel Flavia, who is 2 years old.
