School Meals Appeal

In the UK we constantly face increasing food prices. It’s a fact of life. But for a child in Kabubbu whose parents had all their crops fail because of drought, they face daily hunger.

If your crops don’t grow you have no money to buy food – so you have no food.

Food prices in Uganda escalate, sometimes by up to 10 times a year. That’s a big increase, especially if your harvest has failed! A family needs 1 kilo of maize flour a day, and there’s no local Foodbank to support them.

At Kabubbu Primary School, half the children have UK Partners. Their monthly contribution covers the child’s education, including daily maize porridge for breakfast and posho (thickened maize flour and water) at lunchtime. It’s the same meal day-in day-out; no meat, no chocolate bars, no crisps and no fizzy drinks. But it’s a meal. It stops hunger. And on Fridays they usually get a bonus of boiled egg as well!

The other half of the children in school are funded by their parents. When crops fail these parents can’t afford to pay for school meals and fees. When this happens, children have to leave school and because of that lose all hope of a better future. They’re committed to ongoing poverty.

Just £17.50 a month feeds a child. Can you help us to feed them?
