One of the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic in Uganda has been teenage pregnancies.
Girls who would normally have been in class suffered during the schools lock down. Vulnerable to male advances. Nationwide, many girls became pregnant. Kabubbu was no exception.
Rashidah, in S2, her second year in Trust High School became a victim. She became pregnant in 2021, later realising she was expecting twins.
A sponsored student, she lived with her 70 year old Grandma who has no income, pension or state support. The father of the twins was a builder working on constructing houses in the community. He left the village before Rashidah knew she was pregnant.
When Rashidah was in delivery, the first baby presented with a hand first. The only option to save the lives of Mum and babies was for Mum to have a cesarean section. This was successful and they have all survived.
How will Rashidah provide for the future of the twins, a boy and a girl, when she can’t even afford powdered milk to feed them? £270 – just over £10/week – will provide this for the first 6 months for the twins. Contact us here if you can help.
