The GOOD news is that the number of children enrolled in Kabubbu Primary School in January for this academic year has increased by 46% over pre-Covid numbers.
The BAD news is that because of the pandemic, unpaid teachers all over Uganda have left the profession, and many schools have permanently closed.
The GOOD news is that the number of girls in the school is 289, outnumbering the boys. Educating girls usually results in a drop in the birth rate bringing greater family security in a developing country.
The BAD news is that 369 out the 539 enrolled (68.5%) don’t have a sponsor at £30/month, or someone contributing £15/month for their school breakfast and lunch.
Some Kabubbu Mums will not be able to afford their child’s school fees, so after a month some children will drop out of school.
To support a child in Kabubbu, to give them and their Mums a hope for their future, may mean sacrificing something like a bottle of wine and fish and chips each month!
Is that BAD news or GOOD news? Whichever, we thank you for any support you can give.
