It was a dark day when Dan’s father died in 1997. His mum couldn’t support all her children on her own, so she moved to town to find work and support for them. Dan moved in with his Uncle Abdu in Kabubbu.
Abdu never had a chance to be educated at school but he’s a very hard working man as a guard in Kabubbu Health Centre. He often finishes his shift there and goes off to earn money elsewhere, or tend his crop of maize and beans because he wanted ‘his’ boys to be educated and have the opportunity he missed. At one point, Uncle Abdu had 11 ‘sons and nephews’ in his care. Each had a bed and mattress and they were well organised and tidy.
Dan and all the boys watched their uncle. Some followed his example. Dan became sponsored and worked through primary and secondary school in Kabubbu before going to Kampala to study for a two-year diploma course in biomedical engineering. He graduated in 2019. There’s no shortage of work with this career and since graduating Dan has been working as a technician in Nakasero Hospital, Kampala. Here he is constantly learning and gaining experience and enjoys his responsibilities, particularly in setting up the oxygen line to save patients’ lives.
One day Dan would like to take a further Bachelor degree course because, as he said, ‘I believe this will help me make a great impact in my community.’
It’s always good to help others. as Dan wants to – and our help can come through being a sponsor!
A sponsor makes a big difference, transforming the life of a child in #Kabubbu, #Uganda who has little hope for their future.
TO TRANSFORM A CHILD’S LIFE AS A SPONSOR, simply click here and follow the process to give a child hope through a monthly donation of £30 by BACS or credit card for a Primary School sponsorship. Such a rewarding thing to do!
