Sue & Peter’s journey – part 4!

“Our seamless transition from Entebbe airport to Kabubbu flowed beautifully thanks to Godfrey and the Kabubbu Resort Centre minibus, and then John who walked us around Kabubbu after breakfast. A familiar face waiting for a taxi was Lillian Kagoda, wife to Enoch director of Kabubbu Development Project. We’d met Lillian in the UK and were excited to tell her we were expecting to meet Madina, our partnered daughter of 17 years! As we passed her for a second time she called over to us and said she had a surprise…

Imagine our delight when she revealed Madina, from behind her back. It was such an emotional moment for all of us, but felt so natural, as we had been corresponding regularly for so long (latterly via Messenger). We walked and talked with Madina and went back to the resort to have lunch and plan our time together.

But first there was some volunteering to do! On Saturday, we were kept busy at the KDP Project visiting the Foster Home and meeting Betty and the children.  We spent the whole morning playing games with them and had a great time. On Sunday we went to church and it was such a joy to know that we were praying and worshipping with our brothers and sisters in Uganda at the same time as our church family were doing the same in the UK.  And on Monday Peter went to work with Sulait at the Agricultural Project and I spent some time with Rita in the Library reading to the nursery children, and enjoying the singing. What joy!

Tuesday could not come quickly enough, though! Madina joined Peter and I on a trip to the Ssezibwa waterfalls, Jinja and the Source of the Nile. During our journey and throughout the day we had more time to chat with her and learn about her life and her time at uni in Kampala. Having developed some perspective during home visits to Kabubbu families with Geraldine, Madina’s story brought home just how much she has overcome. Often living in very difficult childhood circumstances, we realised what an incredibly resilient and wonderful young lady she is – and we had such fun!”

… and then what?! Yes, there are two more BIG highlights in Sue’s final installment next week! And watch-out for more of her photos and videos in the future.
