Meet Sulait Wasswa, a talented young man of 27 who lived in Kabubbu all his life until he went to university. As a Kabubbu Kid he attended Kabubbu Community Primary School and Trust High School. He now lives in a village about 6 miles from Kabubbu which has electricity and water from a private pay-as-you-go standpipe. He commutes those 6 miles by motorbike to Kabubbu!

So what’s Sulait commuting to? Here’s a clue. He graduated with a degree in Agriculture from Busitema University, eastern Uganda. It is one of the eight public universities and degree-awarding institutions in the country. This uni specialises in agricultural sciences, agricultural mechanisation and agribusiness.

Sulait always wanted to be involved in agriculture for as long as he can remember. It has been a passion for him. He said it was a big challenge to get onto the specialist university course, but he didn’t give up. He has now been farming for 5 years. His first two as a volunteer on the Kabubbu Development Project farm then as the Farm Manager. He is also the principle trainer for the Graze School of Farming.

So, what does that really mean to Sulait personally? More next week…
