Currently very far from home at Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts USA, but eventually Marion will return to Kabubbu with a whole new vision for her life – and her home community…

Marion’s studying chemistry, economics & biology, and a ‘First Year Seminar’. The first #KabubbuGirl to reach an overseas Uni thanks to a Pestalozzi partnership. Here’s Pestalozzi UK describing Marion’s instinct for lasting change…

“When Pestalozzi students are selected, they are done so not only based on academic merit but also on many other qualities, including a distinct desire to create positive change within their home communities. One of the first things I remember learning about Marion was something she had done even before coming to Pestalozzi. In Uganda she helped to establish and run ‘Mentor Girl Child’. Within this programme she was an advocate for accessible education for girls, as well as helping to teach them about issues such as child marriage and menstrual hygiene. Alongside this, she encouraged the girls in her school to become involved in activities outside of academics, such as sport and writing. She also focused attention on the importance of an education before starting a family.

Within this project Marion was both a mentor and a role model to girls within her school and beyond. Although it was started in 2015, the impact of the club is still being felt – a nurse now teaches students about sex education as part of the programme Marion started.”

All this achieved at the age of 15! More news of Marion in due course…
