The charity is focusing on meeting the spiritual needs of the people as well as their physical needs.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"images\/linebreak.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The Kabubbu Community Church in the Village Centre<\/h2>\n<p>On 11th November 2018 the new Kabubbu Community Church was dedicated. Raw concrete walls and roof were in place with no finishing touches or electricity. Built for 500 &#8211; including the balcony for 150 not yet completed &#8211; there were 500 attending, including 300 Trust High School boarding students.<\/p>\n<p>The second service to be held here was an all-night prayer meeting from 7.00pm on New Year&#8217;s Eve to 7.00am New Year&#8217;s Day. 500, again, crammed into the seating area for 350! This time there were no boarding students from Trust High School who were at home on their Christmas holidays. 30 people came forward that night to dedicate their lives to Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>The building is still in the process of completion but is holding weekly meetings with regular congregations up to 200.<\/p>\n<p>The weekly meetings have also moved to this new church from its previous meeting place including home groups which meet during the week. It will also run <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alpha Courses<\/a> for villagers. Other activities include a women&#8217;s fellowship, a men&#8217;s fellowship, Bible studies and a Sunday school.<\/p>\n<p>The 350 boarding students at Trust High School continue to hold their own services in the main school hall.<\/p>\n<p>Quicken is a bridge between churches in the UK and those in Kabubbu. There is a strong Christian foundation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickentrust.com\/dev\/?page_id=300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Primary<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickentrust.com\/dev\/?page_id=313\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trust High schools<\/a>. Quicken has also been working with local churches of different denominations for more than twenty years. Accomplishments include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Training local pastors to give better teaching and support for their congregations<\/li>\n<li>Putting a roof on one local church<\/li>\n<li>Building a church baptistry<\/li>\n<li>Supplying musical instruments and other resources for worship<\/li>\n<li>Providing Bibles in local languages from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stuarthinetrust.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stuart Hine Trust<\/a> to churches and for pupils at the Primary school and Trust High School<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Quicken has also shown inspirational films to the local community using equipment funded by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.springharvest.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spring Harvest Charitable Trust<\/a>. Often more than 200 people turn up to watch.<\/p>\n<p>A number of churches in the UK have been particularly supportive, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.battlebaptistchurch.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Battle Baptist Church<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gatewaycfderry.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gateway Christian Fellowship;<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.horamchapel.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Horam Chapel;<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stjamesexeter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St James Church, Exeter;<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saintjohnschurch.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St John\u2019s Church, Rowlands Castle;<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winslowbenefice.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St Lawrence, Winslow<\/a>;\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buckinghamparishchurch.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St Peter &amp; St Paul, Buckingham;<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stwilfs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St Wilfrid\u2019s, Willingdon;<\/a> Shinewater Community Church; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quaker.org.uk\/meetings\/herstmonceux\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Society of Friends, Herstmonceux;<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/unionchurchheathfield\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Union Church, Heathfield<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.victoriabaptist.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victoria Baptist Church, Eastbourne<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chasemethodist.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Waltham Chase Methodist Church;<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.welcomechurch.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Welcome Baptist Church, Heathfield<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"images\/linebreak.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The Previous &#8216;Church with No Name&#8217;!<\/h2>\n<p>In 2007 Quicken and the Kabubbu Development Project set up a new church which met at the Trust High School &#8211; called the Kabubbu Community Church. More than 400 people attended Sunday morning meetings \u2013 mostly local families and 300 pupils boarding at the school. It\u2019s become known just as \u201cthe church that meets at the High School\u201d.<\/p>\n<div id=\"image_portrait\">\n<p class=\"one\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"images\/pageimages\/32-church-meeting.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The service opened with an hour of lively praise and worship followed by a preach lasting about 45 minutes. There was also opportunity for testimonies and prayers from the congregation. Visitors and volunteers were encouraged to attend the church (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickentrust.com\/dev\/?page_id=558\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Visit<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>A growing demand for a more dedicated building of its own for a range of community services has meant a move to the centre of Kabubbu to be part of a Community Centre.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"images\/linebreak.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Pastor Swaps Classroom for Pulpit<\/h2>\n<p>The pastor, Peter Babu, was appointed in April 2008. Peter is a former deputy head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickentrust.com\/dev\/?page_id=300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Primary school<\/a>. He stepped down to concentrate on the church. In December 2011 he completed a diploma of Theology in Education at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/kestug\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kampala Evangelical School of Theology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Peter\u2019s aim is to provide spiritual encouragement and pastoral support in community. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=X9hBdeXKWQo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Watch: Peter video<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The other elders are the Executive Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickentrust.com\/dev\/?page_id=279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KDP<\/a>, Enoch Kagoda and his wife Lillian.<\/p>\n<p>Christianity is the most widely-held faith in Kabubbu. Among the other churches nearby are a Pentecostal, a Roman Catholic, a Church of Uganda and a Seventh Day Adventist. Quicken and the elders at the Kabubbu Community Church have been keen to maintain good relations with all of them and Quicken personnel organise events for Churches Together. There are also a number of Muslim families who attend the local mosque.<\/p>\n<p>Teaching through the church is vital to provide truth and dispel myths and superstitions which maintain a hold on a rural community. The local witchdoctor still exerts an unhealthy influence, offering charms and spreading nonsense such as the idea that AIDS can be cured if the sufferer sleeps with a virgin.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"images\/linebreak.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Home-grown Evangelism Best<\/h2>\n<p>There is a hunger in Kabubbu to hear about Jesus. Quicken Trust doesn\u2019t take evangelists there but encourages consistent outreach to the community. Uganda has plenty of evangelists who can speak the local languages and are more culturally relevant.<\/p>\n<p>But local pastors do need theological training to get a better understanding of scripture. So there\u2019s an appetite for books, DVDs, Bible study aids and other training materials.
