Who We Are

Quicken Trust is a charity working to transform the lives of people living in poverty in the Ugandan village of Kabubbu. Kabubbu lies 20 miles north of Uganda’s capital, Kampala. Kabubbu parish spreads over a large area, making it tricky to estimate the population but about 4,200 live within two miles of Kabubbu village centre.

We work alongside our partners in the Kabubbu Development Project (KDP). They are Quicken Trust’s partner on the ground in Uganda. The KDP have the cultural knowledge and expertise needed to make the vision of a vibrant, healthy, and self-sustaining community a reality. Quicken Trust partners with them in realising this vision for their community, and the surrounding region.

Our Partners in Uganda

The Kabubbu Development Project was set up as the Quicken Trust began its work in Kabubbu in 2000. The Executive Director is Enoch Kagoda, who first came to Kabubbu to be the head of the Primary School.

The KDP provides work for local people, initially much of which was unskilled. Professional staff were initially recruited from further afield – usually Kampala — because most adults in the village had been denied the education necessary for such roles. But that has changed. Some of the young people educated in Kabubbu over the past decade are returning to pass on their skills to a new generation of youngsters and are working for the project.

The KDP employs all of the teachers, nurses, cooks, drivers, guards, and cleaners needed to run our joint projects. There are currently around 120 staff.
