…and Emily Leader reflects on the remarkable journey to Kabubbu…

It’s Friday 20th July and the students have had their first day of the summer holidays and I’m sure for ‘Team Uganda’ this has meant checking their kit list, nagging parents to buy missing items and the dreaded task of actually packing it all.

I’ve been thinking back to how this all started: for this team, obviously following in the footsteps of the 2016 team. The students applied half way through year 9 and the mammoth task of fundraising began. The students had brilliant and creative ideas.

Freddie’s head shaving, Megan’s bag making, Max’s chicken eggs and many more. We’ve packed bags in Tesco, done A LOT of concerts, 2 sports days, 2 Wadhurst fairs, carol singing, fireworks night, and we got up very early to fundraise at Wadhurst station in some excellent fancy dress!

It has been hard work but a lot of fun has been had on the way.

Well done ‘Team Uganda’!

These fundraising ventures simply could not have happened without the generosity of all Uplands Community College students, staff and parents. We’re also incredibly grateful to the wider community in Wadhurst and the surrounding areas.

Thank you so much – your donations will be used for vital, life-changing work in the Kabubbu community.

Follow our regular blog here from the students – it will tell you all about their Ugandan adventures.
